Do I need experience to join Lions Boxing?

No experience is needed. We welcome complete beginners through to competitive fighters. Our coaches tailor every class to your level so you can start safely and progress at your own pace.

What age can kids start boxing?

Kids can start as young as 5 in our Lions Cubs program (ages 5–8). From there, the Youth Leadership Academy covers ages 9–13, and teens train in our Youth program (ages 14–17). Every program offers age-appropriate training focused on fundamentals, fitness, and confidence.

Where is Lions Boxing located?

Lions Boxing is located at Unit 1, 248 Simpson Avenue, Bowmanville, Ontario, L1C 2J3. We are open Monday–Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Do you offer ladies-only classes?

Yes! We run dedicated Ladies-only boxing classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:45–6:45 pm, providing a comfortable and supportive environment.

How much does a membership cost?

Memberships start at $100/month, which covers Lions Cubs (ages 5–8), the Youth Leadership Academy (9–13), and our Ladies Boxing plan. Youth (14–17) is $120/month and Adults are $150/month. Annual plans save you two months' fees. Starter packages including equipment are also available from $400.

Are your coaches certified?

Yes. Head Trainer and Founder Coach Stuart holds a Level 2 Boxing Ontario certification. All coaching focuses on proper technique, safety, and progressive skill development.

Do you offer personal training?

Yes, one-on-one personal training sessions are available at $75/hour. We also offer 10-session personal training packages bundled with our 3 Month Enhanced Package.

Can I try a class before joining?

Question 9

What should I wear to my first class?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable athletic clothing you can move freely in — shorts or joggers and a t-shirt work great. Bring clean indoor running shoes or cross-trainers, a water bottle, and a small towel. We can lend you hand wraps and gloves for your first session.

How long is a typical boxing class?

Most classes run for 60 minutes. This includes a warm-up, technique instruction, bag work or pad work, conditioning, and a cool-down.

Is boxing safe for my child?

Absolutely. Our youth program is supervised by certified coaches and focuses on technique, fitness, and discipline — not fighting. We use age-appropriate drills, and safety is our top priority. Kids build confidence and coordination in a structured, supportive environment.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

Not at all. Boxing will get you fit — that's the whole point. Our classes accommodate all fitness levels. Coaches scale exercises to your ability, so you can work at your own pace while still getting a great workout.

What's the difference between the Youth Leadership Academy and the Youth program?

Our Youth Leadership Academy is for ages 9–13 and focuses on fundamental boxing skills, coordination, leadership, and building confidence. The Youth program (ages 14–17) introduces more advanced technique, conditioning, and optional light sparring for those interested in competitive boxing.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes. Monthly memberships can be cancelled anytime with no long-term contract. Annual memberships are paid upfront and provide a significant discount (two months free).

Do you serve areas outside Bowmanville?

Yes! We have members from across Durham Region including Newcastle, Courtice, Orono, Hampton, Port Hope, Oshawa, and Clarington. Our gym is conveniently located on Simpson Avenue in Bowmanville with easy access from Highway 2 and the 401.

We're a dedicated boxing gym — not a multi-sport facility where boxing is an afterthought. Our coaches are Boxing Ontario certified, our classes are small enough for personal attention, and our community is tight-knit and welcoming. We focus on real boxing technique, not just cardio kickboxing.

Do you offer competitive boxing training?

Question 18

What equipment do I need to buy?

Accepted Answer

To start, you'll need 180-inch hand wraps ($15–20) and boxing gloves (12–16 oz, $60–120). We sell both in our store. Everything else — heavy bags, speed bags, pads — is provided at the gym. Our starter packages bundle equipment with your membership at a discount.
